Hi! In our first post we would like to introduce ourselves and encourage you to do the same!
My name is Hannah, I have been riding Western for around four years now first learning to ride in the Catskill Mountains of New York, and on the other side of the county in King's Canyon National Park, California. I have been lucky enough to work with some very talented horse people and have a great appreciation for the 'cowboy' culture and the idea of working with your horse rather than your horse working for you.
I am now settled in the UK and have a very talented friend - who is my partner in setting up The Western Riding Club. Along with her beautiful American bread Appi, she is one of the most determined horse people I have ever met. She is extremely good at ground work and has studied the technique of join up, transferring the bond with her horse in to the saddle. She is currently working on perfecting some of her moves and hopes to show next summer.
I have recently started riding a 14 year old Thoroughbred - not your first choice for a western horse you might think! But she is very cleaver and has taken to neck reining very quickly, and has accepted her western saddle without any fuss. We are working on basic movements at the moment, and at building up her fitness levels and trust in me. I too hope to show next year after a hard working year! I think she is gearing up for retirement - wait till I get those barrels out!
Hello! My name is Madison, i have been riding since I was 7 years old. I currently have two horses both are Quarter Horses. Hondo is 22 years old, i occsionally ride him but he is arthritic and is in pain when I ride him cause he eats around the medicine in his food lol. Then my other horse is Smoke, a beautiful horse. 6 years old and does great for me. I hope to take up barrel racing very soon, seems like alot of fun!
